Welsh record-breaking referee Nigel Owens has been handed two key matches in the upcoming Rugby Championship and Bledisloe Cup competitions.
Owens will take charge of the Australia and South Africa Rugby Championship encounter in Brisbane on September 10 and will also be in control of the third Bledisloe Cup Test between New Zealand and the Wallabies on October 22 in Auckland.
He will also be an assistant referee when Australian host Argentina on September 17 in Perth.
Owens officially became a record-breaker last month when he took charge of the Fiji versus Tonga World Cup qualifying match in Suva.
The match was Owens’ 71st as an international referee, eclipsing the previous record of 70 held by Jonathan Kaplan of South Africa.
Owens made his Test debut in 2003 when Portugal beat Georgia 34-30 in Lisbon, going on to develop into one of the most respected match officials in the game’s history.
During his 13 years at the top, Owens has refereed 16 Six Nations matches and 12 in The Rugby Championship (formerly the Tri-Nations).
He has officiated three European Cup finals and, of course, the biggest prize of the lot when he was the man in the middle for the Rugby World Cup final between New Zealand and Australia at Twickenham last October.
He was later voted the World Rugby referee of the year for 2015.
