England outscored Wales five tries to one to lift the inaugural Old Mutual Wealth Cup. Wales started the better, leading 10-0 after 12 minutes thanks to the boot of Dan Biggar and Rob Evans’s early try. However, Luther Burrell and Anthony Watson crossed to narrow the gap to 13-10 at half-time – and Wales couldn’t notch a single point in the second 40 minutes. Ben Youngs, Jack Clifford and Marland Yarde added further tries and had George Ford been more accurate with his goalkicking the scoreline would have made even uglier reading for Warren Gatland and his team.

WHAT’S HOT

Fast and loose – To be fair, this could fall in either the ‘hot’ or ‘not’ column depending on your point of view! Neither England nor Wales had played for a couple of months and this match provided a decent warm-up ahead of the tours to Australia and New Zealand respectively. With the sun shining, they both kept the ball in hand, trying out various backs moves, but there were plenty of errors too – dropped balls, knock-ons, poor passes and the like.

It was entertaining but both teams will need to tighten up their games before taking on their southern hemisphere opponents. England will be pleased with their clinical edge, if not the goalkicking, as it’s rare for any side to score five tries against Wales. They showed more creativity and invention than during the Six Nations, and will want to continue that development in Australia.

Wales failed to capitalise on a couple of breaks and if they fail to take chances like that against the All Blacks, they have no chance of winning in New Zealand for those opportunities will be few and far between. At least their scramble defence prevented a couple of other possible England tries.

Space invaders – Wales clearly came with a plan to close down England’s playmakers and George Ford found that out early on. On numerous occasions the likes of Jamie Roberts and Scott Williams put in big hits on the fly-half, closing down his ability to create attacks and distribute the ball accurately. It often led to knock-ons and loose passes.

Jonathan Joseph, too, had his space restricted and Wales scrambled well in defence too. At the end of the first half, England looked to have acres of space out wide after a turnover at a maul, but Liam Williams did well to tackle Anthony Watson before he left the 22, thus shutting down another England attack before it got started. In the second half, though, Wales found themselves stretched more severely in defence and when they managed to get hold of the ball, they couldn’t keep hold of it for very long. As Warren Gatland said post-match, they need to keep the tempo high for 80 minutes, rather than starting well and then dipping off.

Family-packed crowd – Twickenham has become know as a bit of home for corporate types in recent years, but this game saw far more families in attendance – 10% of the crowd were children. There were plenty of fans who don’t normally have access to tickets for RBS 6 Nations games or autumn Internationals – and they clearly enjoyed the May sunshine, looking resplendent in white and red.

WHAT’S NOT

Biggar’s outburst – Jack Clifford’s try caused controversy in the 47th minute. The No 8, impressive throughout, broke clear from halfway to score near the posts and the TMO was called in to look at whether there was a knock-on from Dan Cole in the build-up. While the TMO ruled no, Wales – and particularly Dan Biggar – clearly felt it was the wrong decision, feeling Cole had deliberately tried to intercept the ball and had knocked it on. Of course players are not going to agree with every decision made by the officials, but the way Wales’ fly-half then remonstrated with the referee and refused to give George Ford the ball for the conversion is not the type of thing you want to see on the field.

Ford’s kicking – In the first half alone, George Ford missed two conversions and a penalty for a total of 0% success rate from the tee. He’s looked short of confidence all season and this clearly came through as he took shots at goal. He started the second half with one kick from hand charged down and another missed conversion. In all, he slotted only one kick from seven – a shocking return. And the biggest cheer of the afternoon came when he slotted his first kick, converting Jack Clifford’s try from in front of the posts.

The pressure was on Ford, with a lot of talk of whether Owen Farrell should wear the No 10 jersey in Australia. On this evidence, the Saracen has to start – he was faultless from the tee in the Aviva Premiership final and has been in sublime form in 2016, improving his distribution and running game no end. Although, Eddie Jones described Ford’s performance as “brilliant”, so selection might not be quite that straightforward!

TMO check – It has to be said that Anthony Watson showed great awareness to twist and turn and stretch his hands above his head to touch the ball down when being tackle by George North. The decision of whether to award a try was put to the TMO and while one angle looked to show Watson touching the ball down on the line, others – not looked at by the officials – raised questions as to whether he was short. Surely all angles should be looked at to determine whether a try has been scored?

Kings edge 12 jaguares

The Kings fired late to claim a 29-22 bonus-point win against a 12-man Jaguares side in Port Elizabeth on Friday. JON CARDINELLI reports. To say discipline has been a problem for the Jaguares in their debut Super Rugby season is an understatement. Following the match in Port Elizabeth, the Jaguares have conceded the most yellow (eight) and red (two) cards. Unbelievably, they conceded two red cards and one yellow on Friday and still managed to come away with a losing bonus point. That outcome said a lot for the Jaguares' determination. It also said a lot for the hapless Kings. Even with the numerical advantage, the hosts battled to make inroads. Nevertheless, the Jaguares would do well to address their aggression in the wake of another reckless display. The visitors had a try in the 25th minute disallowed when referee Nick Briant asked TMO Marius Jonker to check an incident for foul play. Video replays showed lock Tomás Lavanini charging into a ruck and connecting Schalk Oelofse on the chin. Briant had no choice but to send Lavanini off. The Jaguares did well to keep the Kings in check thereafter, and Nicolás Sánchez booted the visitors into a 6-3 lead. In the 37th minute, however, one of their players suffered another brain explosion. Prop Ramiro Herrera went in hard and low on Kings captain Steven Sykes with his shoulder. Sykes was hit on the back of the head, and again, Briant was forced to red-card the Jaguares player. Suddenly the Kings had a great opportunity. They had a dangerous Jaguares side reduced to 13 men for as many as 43 minutes. The game was theirs to lose. But the Kings battled to make their numerical advantage count. Wandile Mjekevu knocked the ball on with the tryline at his mercy. On the stroke of half-time, Edgar Marutlulle was held up right on the line. Right after the break, the Jaguares extended their lead. The Kings made a series of errors, and impeded at the breakdown. Sánchez made the hosts pay by nailing three penalty goals in succession. After 55 minutes, the Jaguares enjoyed a significant nine-point lead. Their fitness of the 13-man side was always going to be put to the test during this period, though. The Kings finally breached the visitors' defence in the 59th minute. Schalk Ferreira charged down an attempted clearance by Martín Landajo, and scored a much needed try for his side. Just when it appeared as if the Kings might be taking control of the contest, they conceded a try at the other end of the field. The visitors controlled possession smartly, and Facunda Isa crashed over from close range. Sánchez added the extras to stretch the lead to 12 points. There was another twist in this bizarre match when Tomás Lezana was yellow-carded in the 70th minute for a cynical infringement. The Kings opted to set a scrum, and when the Jaguares collapsed the set piece intentionally, the referee awarded the hosts a penalty try. Fouché's conversion reduced the deficit to five points. Dewald Human scored the hosts' third try a minute in the 73rd minute to level the scores. Fouché then nailed a difficult conversion to edge his team into the lead. The Jaguares defence began to miss routine tackles in the dying minutes, and the Kings started to exploit the extra space out wide. England captain Dylan Hartley accepts that one more concussion could force him to take an extended break from the game or even end his career. Hartley has missed 14 weeks of the season over two spells after taking blows to the head, the most recent of which came in the final match of the RBS 6 Nations when he was knocked unconscious in the Grand Slam-sealing victory over France. Debilitating lethargy was the main symptom of his latest absence and he was only able to return in Northampton's final match of the season on May 7, making Sunday's Test against Wales at Twickenham the second outing of his comeback. Now the 30-year-old hooker is symptom-free and feels "strong and fit", but he knows a further concussion might have far-reaching implications. "If I got another lay-off now, I'd be worried. I'd probably start looking at other careers or maybe a long lay-off. Maybe I'll look at my tackling technique too!" Hartley said. Three in one season would warrant a bit of time off and I would probably take that anyway -- take a step back and have a minute. A frustrating period of uncertainty in which Hartley waited for the symptoms to lift so he could begin the return-to play protocols was notable for his need to sleep and inability to complete tasks. "Basically all I did was mill about. I felt a bit useless, a spare part. And when you stop training you de-condition, you get negative, you feel bad about your body," Hartley said. "I couldn't run or do anything and spent a lot of time on the couch. It was lethargy, constantly wanting to sleep. "I'd wake up in the morning, have breakfast and go back to bed, or go into the club to attend a few meetings and then go back to bed. I just didn't have any get up and go. "It's really weird, I actually went to use my bike at home thinking 'right, it's been a month now and I've done absolutely F-all, I'm going to go and get on my Watt bike'. "I put all my kit on, put my water bottle on and I just said to myself 'get on the bike' ... and I just couldn't get on the bike. "I had no urge to get on the bike. I almost tried forcing myself to get on and I just said 'I can't be bothered', so I went back to lie on the couch and went to sleep. "There's no lying in your recovery. I had a constant reminder of that every time you see your kid and you think, 'if I hit my head again, what's that going to mean?'. "Then I just turned the corner one week and it was great to get that run-out against Gloucester for a bit of confidence."

El equipo dirigido por Juan Misson y Luis Violini no dejó dudas, y borró de la cancha a San Martín con un contundente 30-3, en la novena y última fecha del Grupo I. Así, se metió en el Top 14, donde volverá a jugar los dos clásicos ante La Plata Rugby y San Luis. Lindo premio para los de verde, que coronaron de la mejor manera la gran campaña realizada. Ahora se viene un receso, pero a la vuelta los encontrará en la máxima competencia del rugby de Buenos Aires.
El inicio del partido no fue el ideal para ninguno de los dos equipos, que buscaron por todos los medios hacerse fuertes en algún plano. En eso, llegaron los primeros puntos para el conjunto local, gracias al acierto de un penal desde los pies de Juan Ignacio Sarasola. Minutos más tarde, Miguel Goñi se escapó por el ciego y logró ganar varios metros con una corrida solitaria, pero la jugada fue perdiendo peligro hasta terminar en un cambio de posesión. Al promediar la etapa, Sarasola volvió a sumar de a tres, mientras ambos se prestaban la pelota sin poder dañar la defensa contraria. Pero a un minuto del final, se dio la jugada más linda de la primera parte. Sarasola puso la pelota al fondo con un kick, ésta le picó bien y cedió rápidamente para Juan Ron. Al reinicio, Los Tilos salió a liquidarlo. Y así, a los tres minutos, encontró la fórmula para volver a penetrar la defensa de Pacific. Maul, con la siempre efectiva conducción de Federico Castilla, que guió al pack hasta adentro del ingoal para apoyar la segunda conquista de su equipo. San Martín descontó con un penal, y a partir de ahí el duelo entró en una meseta, que recién se rompería en la segunda mitad del complemento. Un nuevo penal de Sarasola llevó el tanteador a 23-3, aunque lo mejor llegó después. Agustín Valdovinos robó una pelota en un line en plena defensa, la bajó de la hilera e inició una c arrera entre todos. La jugada ganó velocidad, los pases fluyeron y la pelota voló a la punta contraria hasta llegar a las manos de Nicolás Fernández, el autor de la definición. Quedaban varios minutos por delante. Misson y Violini movieron el banco para darle aire y piernas al equipo. Entraron varios, pero la vuelta de Mateo Tuculet al primer equipo no pasó desapercibida para nadie. Después, el árbitro marcó el final, y el público invadió el campo para festejar con los jugadores una victoria muy especial.

En tanto, los menores ganaron 21-14 gracias a un try en la última jugada del partido, que rompió la paridad. En este caso, las conquistas fueron obra de Juan Albina, Isidoro Arrien y Elías Ianonne. Por último, una Pre Intermedia C con muchas caras conocidas, le ganó 22-14 a La Plata Rugby con tries de Nicolás Ronga, Emiliano Peri y Juan Aspilcueta (2).

Sin lugar a dudas es real lo que dicen de que Hindú sabe jugar finales. No sólo por mostrar un buen nivel de juego en el partido más importante es el campeón, sino también por ser paciente e ir al frente en los momentos claves. Contundencia, precisión y garra; esas fueron los aspectos fundamentales para que el Elefante volviera a pisar con todo su poderío en el torneo más federal que tiene el rugby argentino. Durante el primer tiempo se vio un partido parejo, con ambos equipos midiéndose y tratando de buscar los huecos en la defensa rival. Sin embargo, fue Hindú el que tomó las riendas del encuentro y sumó en cuanta oportunidad se le presentó. De esta manera, y con un solo try con la autoría de Senillosa, tras una jugada combinada con Álvarez, los conjuntos se fueron al entretiempo con un parcial de 16 a 9 a favor de la visita.

En el complemento, arrancó mejor Belgrano con la meta puesta en revertir la historia de la mano de su pack. Así fue como llegó el try de Gorrisen que puso la igualdad en el marcador (16-16) e hizo delirar a la hinchada local. Pero la algarabía duro poco. Hindú se despertó luego del descanso a tiempo y marcó un nuevo try para no dejar que el dueño de casa tome coraje para dar vuelta el resultado. Jugadón de Álvarez que agarró de aire un despeje de Belgrano y, aunque se le escapó de las manos, metió a tiempo el pie para que la pelota no tocara el piso. Luego, junto con Cancelliere hicieron una magistral pared para que Bautista terminara en el ingoal. Poco pudo hacer el try de Ferronato para achicar la diferencia, ya que los backs de Hindú tuvieron un segundo tiempo tremendo. Lions coach Johan Ackerman expressed his gratitude towards his players for getting maximum points from the game. "It was definitely physical and we are grateful for the five points and the win. We were pleased with the amount of line breaks we got in the first half, although we never finished them off but credit must go to the players. "They made the correction at half-time and were more accurate in the second half. it was far from a perfect match and we have plenty to work on looking forward towards the Bulls match," Ackerman said. The Lions have established themselves as the best team in the country but Ackerman knows his team is in for a tough time as they head into the back-end of the competition. "We are happy with where we are but it is hard to say it is all over because we have a few tough matches ahead of us. We must get over each hurdle, so we will just need to focus on ourselves and the upside is that everything is in our hands. "We are not in a situation where we need to rely on other teams, so we just need to press the reset button on Monday. We have a big challenge against the Bulls at Loftus and if we can get through that, then it is going to be an exciting time that lies ahead," the coach added.

El gran error de Nigel Owens

En la final de la Europe Rugby Champions , el arbitro Nigel Owens cometio uno de , sino , gran error en si carrera de referee de rugby.
En el minuto 48 del partido se produce un ruck y el jugador del Saracens juega claramente el balon desde el suelo.
La regla 16 del Ruck en resumen nos dice :cuando se formo el ruck ya no puedes meter la mano a la formacion para sacar la pelota , asi como tambien la posicion de entrada al ruck y cuantos puntos de apoyo debe de tener el jugador que quiere tomar el balon y en que momento puede hacerlo.
El partido estaba 12 a 6 a favor de Saracens , y con el penal que sanciono a favor del club ingles el marcador paso a 15 a 6 , lo que produjo un cambio en el partido , que no pudo revertir el Rancing92 , club frances . Que sanciono Nigel Owens? Entrar inadecuadamente al ruck .
Aqui el criterio de los arbitros de primer nivel es cederle la posicion al equipo que obtuvo el ruck por un par de segundos hasta la orden del referee de jugar .... Pero si ese balon no tiene techo es bola suelta , desprotegida , tal y cual lo vemos en el video ... Y aun asi sanciono... Doblemente mal .
Raro ver ese comportamiento en un referee de ese nivel . Pero ocurrio.

Vice de la rugby world

Agustín Pichot fue elegido hoy como Vicepresidente de World Rugby en la ciudad de Dublín. El ex capitán de Los Pumas, acompañará al nuevo presidente de la entidad, el inglés Bill Beaumont. Ambos asumirán su nuevo cargo a partir del 1° de julio de este año y su mandato se extenderá hasta 2020.

World Rugby cambia así a sus principales autoridades tras ocho años con el francés Bernard Lapasset al frente, período en que el rugby tuvo un gran crecimiento a nivel global. Los nuevos desafíos que tendrá la flamante dirigencia de World Rugby, tienen al Mundial de Japón 2019, el primero que se realizará en Asia, y el regreso del rugby a los Juegos Olímpicos en Río 2016.

Hasta hoy, Pichot ocupaba un cargo en el Comité Ejecutivo de World Rugby y era el representante argentino ante la institución que guía el juego a nivel mundial.

"Esta designación es un honor y un orgullo para el rugby argentino. Estoy acá por la historia de nuestro rugby y porque estuve presente en estos últimos años, en los que Argentina logró insertarse de manera muy positiva en el rugby internacional. Se está premiando al rugby argentino con esta designación y no a mí como persona", manifestó Pichot desde Irlanda.

"Tengo un enorme respeto por Bill que es uno de los más grandes jugadores de la historia de Inglaterra y también de los prestigiosos British and Irish Lions. En los últimos años también se convirtió en un excelente dirigente, por lo tanto es un honor que me haya pedido que lo acompañe y sea parte de su equipo con el que buscaremos que su gestión sea muy positiva para todo el rugby".

El Presidente de la Unión Argentina de Rugby Carlos Araujo, el Secretario Fernando Rizzi y el Tesorero de la UAR y Presidente de Sudamérica Rugby Carlos Barbieri, estuvieron en Dublín acompañando a Pichot y representando a la UAR ante World Rugby.

"Agustín viene trabajando de manera incansable para el rugby argentino y nos pone muy contentos esta designación. Es un gran desafío para él y una gran noticia para la UAR y el rugby de nuestra región. Es la primera vez que alguien de nuestra Unión es designado en un puesto tan importante dentro del escenario mundial y debemos celebrarlo", dijo Carlos Araujo.

Por su parte, el nuevo presidente de World Rugby, Bill Beaumont, sostuvo que "Es un honor aceptar el mandato del Consejo para servir a World Rugby como presidente en lo que es una era emocionante y crucial para el deporte. El rugby ha experimentado un significativo y rápido crecimiento, que es mérito al liderazgo de Bernard Lapasset en los últimos ocho años. El rugby enfrenta aún desafíos y en mi manifiesto delineo cinco prioridades enfocadas a enfrentar estos desafíos. Estas prioridades son continuar protegiendo a los jugadores, preservar la integridad, mejorar la competencia global, optimizar las relaciones y darle poder y fortalecer a las uniones."

Belgrano hace historia

El conjunto de Virrey del Pino fue fiel a su juego de forwards y derrotó a CUBA por 33 a 14 en Villa de Mayo. De esta manera, Belgrano llega a su primera final del ICBC Nacional de Clubes y recibirá a Hindú.

Ambos protagonistas salieron a la cancha con la meta puesta en el partido del próximo sábado. El dueño de casa venía de dar la sorpresa en Benavídez al derrotar a Newman en el final del encuentro, mientras que Belgrano le ganó por cuartos de final de Atlético del Rosario por un ajustado 25 a 22.

Durante el encuentro, el Universitario no pudo hacer pie en una cancha húmeda y que no ayudaba al manejo de pelota. El juego se desarrolló mayoritariamente en la lucha de forwards y todos los tries fueron por esa vía. El del conjunto local en el complemento tuvo la autoría de Aleman después de un buen empuje en el maul. Belgrano sumó el primero por decisión del Federico Cuesta, por reiteradas infracciones en el scrum rival, y los dos siguientes por medio de un gran trabajo del pack (Gómez di Nardo y Galli).

Sin lugar a dudas, el equipo de Virrey del Pino fue contundente y gracias a su típico juego de delanteros pudo arrinconar a CUBA que tuvo un duro golpe al inicio del partido cuando perdió a su apertura Juan Cruz González por una lesión en el tobillo izquierdo. 

Era claro que la victoria iba a ser para quién ganara en la batalla de forwards y claramente en ese aspecto Belgrano no dejó dudas. El próximo fin de semana, será local de la gran final del ICBC Nacional de Clubes. En frente tendrá al campeón defensor: Hindú. ¿Podrá el Marrón festejar luego de casi 50 años sin títulos?

Francisco Gorrisen (Tercera línea de Belgrano): “Lo mejor que hicimos fue no traicionar nuestra ideología y nuestro juego. Sostuvimos lo que es nuestro sistema y nuestro plan a rajatabla. Pumas sevens 4 puesto

Con un importantísimo triunfo ante Nueva Zelanda, y dos derrotas, frente a Samoa y Francia, Los Pumas 7s finalizaron en la cuarta posición en el torneo de Paris. En el primer partido del día, Argentina consiguió una victoria histórica al vencer a Nueva Zelanda por 19 a 17, tras ir perdiendo por 17 a 5. Fue el séptimo triunfo de Los Pumas 7s ante el seleccionado neozelandés, y el segundo en este circuito (lo había vencido en el torneo de Ciudad del Cabo). En la semifinal, el rival fue Samoa, y fue derrota para el conjunto nacional por un ajustado 14 a 12, Esto lo llevó a jugar por el tercer puesto del torneo ante el seleccionado local, que venía de perder en semifinales con Fiji.

El primer tiempo del partido por el tercer puesto fue parejo, y terminó 10 a 12 a favor de los locales. En el completo, Francia estiró la ventaja con dos tries más y a pesar del try de Müller en el último segundo, se llevó la victoria.

Con este cuarto puesto, Argentina subió al quinto lugar en el ranking general de World Rugby Sevens. El próximo fin de semana, 21 y 22 de mayo, se disputará  en Londres la décima y última etapa de la temporada 2015/2016, y luego, en agosto, la gran cita: los Juegos Olímpicos de Río 2016.

El chipi campeon de Europa

- El "Chipi" Juan Figallo se coronó campeón de Europa con su equipo Saracens de Inglaterra, y luego de la foto que circuló en los medios con su medalla, ahora publicó otra en su cuenta oficial de Twitter con el mítico trofeo de la Europe Champs. Figallo es el rugbista más importante de la historia en nuestra provincia y el fin de semana volvió a escribir otra página en su rica carrera repleta de logros. Junto a la foto publicó la siguiente frase: "Nada mas lindo que celebrarlo con amigos...nothing better than celebrate with friends #EuropeChamps". Mirá la foto

Tarcos Rugby Club reseña historica

Con una misa que se iniciará a las 20.30 en la sede del ex aeropuerto y una posterior reunión de camaradería (un asado a la canasta), donde se descubrirá una placa alusiva, Los Tarcos comenzará a festejar los 50 años de vida institucional que cumple hoy. Las celebraciones "rojas" se prolongarán hasta mediado del año.
Fue un 4 de enero de 1955 cuando un grupo de visionarios, varios de ellos provenientes del club Universitario, concibió el desafío de formar este nuevo club. Entre ellos, debe recordarse a Pablo Abelardo Zelarayán -la cancha 1 lleva su nombre-, Arturo Rodríguez Areal, Eduardo Fonio, Arnaldo Hagelstrom y Raúl Guerrero. Ellos fueron quienes integraron la comisión directiva provisoria para darle forma a Los Tarcos Rugby Club. 

Pasó el tiempo y los objetivos planteados por sus fundadores se fueron cumpliendo al pie de la letra. Se fue consolidando una estructura deportiva y social que logró un notable crecimiento institucional y posicionó al club en lo deportivo gracias a las conquistas de numerosos títulos en los primeros planos del rugby tucumano.
A 50 años de aquella histórica fecha, Los Tarcos se ha transformado en uno de los grandes de nuestro rugby. Por eso los festejos por las Bodas de Oro lo encuentra en el mejor momento: son los actuales campeones de la región norteña y, además, se dieron el gusto de llegar a las finales de los torneos del Interior y Nacional de Clubes.
Atrás, en su rica historia deportiva, quedaron once títulos del Anual de la URT (entre 1966 y 1994), un Regional (2004), un Nacional Extra, en 1977, y una corona en el torneo de Campeones jugado en Mendoza en 1987 (le ganó la final al SIC).
De sus filas salieron muchísimos jugadores a los distintos seleccionados "naranjas" y varios de ellos, también, representaron a Los Tarcos en los diferentes seleccionados nacionales. Siete de ellos fueron jugadores de Los Pumas. Luis Molina jugó en la Copa del Mundo de 1987 en Nueva Zelanda y Australia, mientras que Pablo Buabse lo hizo en los Mundiales de 1991 en las islas británicas y de 1995 en Sudáfrica. Un entrenador del club, Luis "Cacho" Castillo, llegó a dirigir a Los Pumas Juniors en 1995 y fue selector nacional.
En lo institucional, el cambio de sede de la ex Rural, en el corazón de parque 9 de Julio a su actual emplazamiento, en el ex aeropuerto, fue fundamental. El 23 de abril de 1986 se logró adquirir en forma definitiva el actual predio ubicado en Brígido Terán al 500. Desde entonces, Los Tarcos no paró de crecer. Primero fueron un par de canchas de rugby, otra de hockey, una pequeña secretaría y un quincho. Pasaron casi 20 años y hoy el club goza de todas las comodidades: pileta, salón y gimnasio incluidos.
Muchos acontecimientos de su historia seguramente se repasarán en la reunión de esta noche. Para la ocasión fueron invitados todos los presidentes que pasaron por el club, además de los principales directivos de los clubes de Tucumán y de la Unión. No faltarán los actuales campeones, socios y amigos de la institución. Será un día de fiesta. Cincuenta años, no es poco. Y tampoco se festeja todos los días. 

"Estamos en el mejor momento"
Los Tarcos está atravesando un gran momento, uno de los mejores de su historia. Hoy celebrará los 50 años, justo cuando el club es campeón Regional y logró los subcampeonatos del Interior y Nacional.
"Los Tarcos es uno de los clubes grandes que hay en el país. En 60 días hemos festejado un título en un torneo tan duro como el Regional. Además fuimos finalistas en los dos torneos que se realizan a nivel interprovincial: el del Interior y el Nacional de Clubes. Mejor no nos podía ir en los festejos del 50 aniversario de nuestro club", señaló Manuel Daneri, actual presidente de Los Tarcos.
"No fue fácil alcanzar estos logros. Todo lo realizado ha requerido un gran sacrificio de toda la gente del club. En octubre de 2002, vimos que estábamos al borde del abismo. Entonces nos concientizamos de que debíamos estar unidos y que debíamos trabajar mucho para salir adelante. Por suerte, nos salieron bien las cosas. En 2003, fuimos terceros en el campeonato; en 2004, nos coronamos con otro título", añadió Daneri, el "Pibe", como se lo conoce en el ambiente del rugby.
"En cuanto a lo institucional, Los Tarcos se nutre de los patrocinadores y de las cuotas societarias. Con la plata que se recaudó se pudieron hacer mejoras, pero para conseguirlo se hizo un gran esfuerzo. Se construyó un gimnasio y se ampliaron las tribunas para 7.500 personas. También se mejoraron las canchas de rugby y de hockey", agregó.
"Estamos contentos porque el panorama ha cambiado mucho en estos dos últimos años. Estamos convencidos de que la metodología que utilizamos en Los Tarcos también debe ser aplicada en la vida: trabajar todos unidos y con sacrificio. En la familia hay que estar unidos para sobrellevar los peores momentos, sino, nunca se llega a buen puerto", dijo.
"Hoy comenzamos a festejar. Queremos compartir con toda la familia roja y con los amigos que estén en Tucumán. Durante el año van a celebrarse varios actos y eventos deportivos. Por ejemplo, un día se juntarán todas las camadas que hayan vestido la camiseta roja para jugar al menos 5 minutos cada uno. Y el broche será alrededor del 9 de julio, cuando se organizará un partido entre la Primera de nuestro club y un combinado de figuras invitadas de todo el país. De eso está a cargo Luis Castillo. El mismo día, se hará la cena por el 50 aniversario", comentó Daneri.
"Lo bueno es que este aniversario encuentra al club en su mejor momento. Esta movida deportiva que hizo Los Tarcos ha gestado cosas insospechables: se han arrimado muchos jugadores históricos del club, quienes se ofrecieron a colaborar. Y eso es bueno. La familia está unida y es más grande que nunca. Será un buen aniversario, como se merece vivir unas Bodas de Oro", destacó. 

LOS PRESIDENTES.- Los 15 presidentes de Los Tarcos fueron Heraldo Fonio (1955-1956), Ricardo Alvarez (1956-1958), Víctor Signorelli (1958-1959 y 1963-1964), Eduardo Valy (1959-1962 y 1967-1969), Nemecio Cuello (1962-1963), Pablo Abelardo Zelarayán (1964-1966 y 1975-1977), Ramón Rojas (1969-1975), Humberto Gravano (1977-1979), Ramón Gamboa (1979-1983), Rolando Riera (1983-1985), Antonio Gandur (1985-1987 y 1997-1999), Armando Du Plessis (1987-1993), Oscar Lai (1993-1997), Guillermo Scarso (1999-2000) y Manuel Daneri (2000-2004).
PUMAS Y PUMITAS.- Los siete jugadores rojos que vistieron la camiseta de Los Pumas fueron Luis Molina, Marcelo Ricci, Pablo Buabse, Fernando Buabse, Sergio Bunader, Omar Portillo y Leonardo Gravano. Además jugaron en Los Pumitas José Salas, Rafael Racedo Aragón, Javier Martínez Riera, Lorenzo Médici, José Díaz Romero y Santiago García.
LOS PRIMEROS CAMPEONES.- Los Tarcos cosechó en 1966 el primer título Anual. Los protagonistas de la primera conquista fueron Hugo Autino, Carlos Rojas, Fernando Burgos, Bulacio, Valy, Fernández Bravo, Molina, Bedoian, Sagués, Du Plessis, Silvio Martoni, Julio Olmos, Fonio, Di Colantonio, René María, Alvarez, García Ascárate, Pujadas, Remonda, Luis Rojas, Antonio Viola, Ricardo Kirschbaum, Cuello y Navarro. Estos jugadores fueron conducidos por "Cacho" Zelarayán.
EL TITULO DEL 77.- El equipo que ganó la final del Nacional Extra, en 1977, formó así: Bonano, Martoni y Pérez; Wagner y Cisint; Blanche, Pacheco y Ricci; Carlos Zelarayán y Luis Gamboa; Pablo Zelarayán, Pablo Acuña, Luis Castillo, Durán y Casacci.

“… Y FUIMOS CAMPEONES ARGENTINOS …”

Pasó mucho tiempo , 34 años para ser más exacto, de aquel memorable 10 de Julio de 1977, ese año que no podrá ser borrado nunca de la historia del rugby tucumano ni de la historia inmensa de nuestro club, ese año 1977 nuestra Primera División, si la primera división de LOS TARCOS RUGBY CLUB se abrazó a la gloria máxima, ser CAMPEONES ARGENTINOS de clubes, en ese entonces el torneo se llamaba “EXTRA DE LA UAR DE CLUBES CAMPEONES”. El nombre de nuestro club se reflejó en los diarios más importantes del país con títulos como “Gran hazaña de Los Tarcos” o “Tucumanos en notorio ascenso”. La actuación del equipo mereció además el análisis de uno de los más prestigiosos periodistas del deporte de la ovalada: Nicanor González del Solar, que en su columna escribió con el título “Conquista de la Gran Ciudad” lo siguiente: Los Tarcos sorprendió a propios y extraños con su campaña, Los Tarcos practicó un juego excelente y con un perfecto entrenamiento, tras elogiar en varios párrafos más las bondades del equipo, culmina su nota con esta frase: “para batir a los tucumanos hay que esforzarse al máximo, porque no dan ventajas y saben llegar al try”. El diario Clarín puso como título “Gran hazaña de Los Tarcos” adjuntando lo siguiente: “… nadie podrá negar la voluntad de ganar de Los Tarcos ni la justicia de su triunfo …” Fue larga la campaña realizada, primero nos adjudicamos la Zona Norte venciendo la final a Los Gauchos de Salta por 39 a 12, venciendo también a Ledesma de Jujuy y Universitario de Córdoba. Luego vencimos al Atlético de Rosario por 17 a 8, después vino el turno de Alumni de Buenos Aires por 29 a 12, llegamos a la fase decisiva y jugamos la semifinal con Liceo Naval de Buenos Aires a quienes vencimos por 18 a 12 y la Gran Final con Belgrano Athletic de Buenos Aires a quien derrotamos 22 a 12 (2 tries de Gustavo “Rata” Durán; 1 conversión y 4 penales de Luis “Mono” Gamboa, recuerden que el try en esa época valía 4 puntos). Pitada final.
